FedEx unloaded a bunch of boxes at my neighbors across the street few days ago. The boxes had “Love Sac” printed on them. Curiosity got the better of me so I googled it.
Love Sac makes modular furniture – think sofas that you can configure any way you want like L shapes, U shapes, extra wide, etc.
Their base price sofa was $4000! When I looked at their “inspire me” models, the first price that popped up was over $8000!
For a sofa!
I bought an IKEA sofa when I moved here 3 years ago. I think it was about $500. Prior to going on the road, I had a really nice Pottery Barn sectional sofa that we bought back in 2006 for $2000.
The Pottery Barn sofa was fantastic. It served us well for 14 years and had I not gone on the road and gifted it to my stepson, I’d be sitting on it today.
The $500 is less plush, but it works for me and the dogs.
Getting rid of everything I owned was a great lesson for me. While I now only buy and keep things I love (ala Marie Kondo), I am far less attached to any of my stuff.
I could walk away from it all and only miss the convenience of it.
I doubt I’ll ever own an $8000 sofa. I may never even get the chance to sit on one. I’m cool with that.
I rather keep the $8000 in investments.
