I just received my 5th vaccination this year. I’m not a vaccination fanatic by any stretch of the imagination. I received the standard array of childhood vaccines. I got a tetanus shot in my early teens when I stepped on a rusty nail. When I was 18, I was required to have several more. After I moved in with my wife and her constantly sick kids, I started getting an annual flu vaccine.
In the 30+ years since then, I’ve only gotten annual flu vaccines and Covid vaccines annually or more frequently, as advised by the CDC.
This year though, I was due for a few more vaccines,so I got them earlier this fall. Then, just a few weeks ago, the CDC recommended that anyone over 50 get the pneumonia vaccine. Previously, I think they recommended it for health adults over 65 and for adults under 65 who had certain health issues.
I had pneumonia when I was a little kid. It was awful. So today, I got my vaccine.
I’m anticipating the side effects will be mild than the Shingrix vaccine I had a few months ago. I hope I’m right.
Even if this vaccine does make me feel off, it’s better than pneumonia for sure.
This is my last vaccination for the year. With any luck, next year I’ll be back to the usual flu and Covid vaccines only.
Note: I’ll update this post with any side effects I experience in a few days.
