When something is completely out of my control, I can fight it or I can accept it.
If I fight it, I am guaranteed to prolong my mental anguish as I burn up useless brain cycles in a losing battle.
As an action biased guy, I want to make a plan, take action and solve problems.
Here are some things I’ve had to accept in the past year.
- Covid-19 Pandemic
- Lockdowns and Restrictions
- Covid-19 Variants and new surges
- Meat shortage
- Toilet paper shortage
- Colonial gas pipeline hack and shortage
- Riots, Curfews and Lockdowns
- Vaccine Rollout Delays
- Cold Rainy Weather
- Pool Closures
- 2 Hernias requiring surgeries
- Selfish friends
- Dating Rejections
- Price inflation
- Tax increases
If I spent another hour writing this list, I’m sure I could come up with 100 more.
But that’s not the point.
The point is that when something like these come up, the sooner I recognize that it is outside of my control and accept what it “is”, the sooner I can move forward and make peace.
Until then, I let it consume my thoughts and drive me crazy.
