There was a school shooting in Nashville this week. The shooter killed 3 nine-year old kids and 3 adults before being killed by the police. There was surveillance video of the shooter entering the school and stalking the hallways with an AR 15 (of course). No video of the shooter killing people has been shown, although I imagine it will eventually get leaked.
However, there was police body cam video released from 2 cops who ran into the building toward the gunfire and killed the shooter. The police were total badasses.
From what I saw, the police couldn’t have responded any better. They arrived on scene within minutes, jumped out of their vehicles grabbing weapons, locked and loaded as they ran up to the school, assembled an assault team in seconds and ran in.
They executed what appeared to be a textbook response.
3 kids dead. Before the cops got there.
3 adults dead. Before the cops got there.
1 shooter dead.
Unless the US becomes a dictatorship, I think there is zero chance of meaningful gun control happening in my lifetime.
Our politicians who are for gun control, point their fingers and write bills that superficially address a concern, but will do nothing to meaningfully remove the 300+ million guns already in circulation. These bills also never pass congress (locally or nationally).
Our politicians who are against gun control have been passing laws that make it easier to get guns, carry them, and take them into more places.
Our citizens all react in shock, horror and sadness when another school shooting happens.
Then we all turn back to Netflix or TikTok until the next one happens.
I don’t even know what to say.
Part of me is really glad the police reacted so quickly and killed the shooter. Am I looking at the bright side of a school shooting?
How can I even type those words? …The bright side of a school shooting.
3 children are dead.
And we do nothing. Again.
