Autodidact

Posted on February 2, 2022 by Steve Ainslie

I learned a new word today – autodidact. It means, “a self-taught person”.  AKA someone who has acquired knowledge without seeking help from a teacher or formal education institution.

I’ve heard the word before, but never knew its meaning. Today, when I heard it on the Reason Roundtable podcast, I looked up the meaning.

I love how this word rolls off my tongue like other Greek words – stephanopolis, spanakopita and sycophant.

I love how the definition perfectly describes what I am doing in my life today – teaching myself how to do things that I think are cool, interesting and challenging (drumming, painting, drawing, French etc.)

I love that I have learned another word to add to my lexicon.

Steve Ainslie – an autodidactic, sapiosexual dude.
