Baseball, Apple Pie and Shooting Children

Posted on August 29, 2025 by Steve Ainslie

I hate that we, as Americans, have accepted school shootings.

Yesterday a lunatic shot into a church that was filled with grade school kids on their first day of school. Two kids were killed, 15 children and 2 senior citizens were shot.

This is America.

The kids have been trained (like most school kids today) with active shooter drills. Older kids (7th graders) pushed the younger ones under the pews and covered them with their own bodies. All tried to hide as the shooter blasted the church through a window. Apparently he reloaded at least once during the attack.

Eventually, he killed himself.

The shooter had what seems, in retrospect, to have obvious mental illness issues. But that’s easy to say in hindsight looking at his sexual identity issues, social media and his YouTube manifesto.

He also had 3 guns that he purchased legally.

We have decided, as a country, as citizens and as elected politicians to do nothing.

School shootings are acceptable vs. doing anything to stop them.

Since other countries have solved this problem, there are things we could try. But we don’t.

Gun accessibility and gun laws could help. But we won’t do anything about this.

Mental illness treatment including stricter controls over access to guns could help. Instead we are doing less of both.

Social media clearly has exacerbated these problems. We won’t do anything about that either.

Political polarization and fighting ensures we will continue doing nothing.

If is fu**ing pathetic.

These are kids.

And we do nothing.
