I have liked Bernie Sanders ever since he first came on my radar when he ran for the 2016 Democratic nomination for President. Of course, being anti-establishment, he lost the nomination to Hillary Clinton. He ran again in 2020 and was defeated by the democratic machine that backed cognitively impaired Biden.
Bernie’s recommendations for universal health care, free education, increased taxes on the wealthy and on stock trades, child-care assistance and other social services appeal to me.
He is a voice of reason and good judgement amongst the mob of self-serving politicians.
But he isn’t going to get anything significant accomplished – because he hasn’t yet and now it is too late.
I understood this after his defeat by Hillary for the Democratic nomination. Aside from his inability to garner support from the Democratic Party, he’s got another major flaw.
He’s a career lifetime politician who has been a Senator for nearly 20 years. Congress has been ineffective that entire tire and Bernie was a part of it.
He’s also 83. That mere fact will prevent him from being able to accomplish anything major before age or age-related health problems force him to retire, resign or die.
I’m writing this because lately Bernie has been making the news doing visits around the US to local communities he hopes he can help flip from Red to Blue in 2022. He’s the latest Democratic Tic Tok sensation, I’ve heard from Democrats who love him.
Maybe he can help a few congresspeople get elected.
But as for passing legislation, improving the health care/insurance/pharmaceutical system or getting the federal government to serve the common people – it’s never going to happen.
That’s too bad. He seems like a genuinely good person who is concerned about the little guy.
