Bread and Circuses #2 – Pandemics and Protests

Posted on June 11, 2020September 4, 2021 by Steve Ainslie

In response to the protests, rioting and opportunistic looting, the US Congress is taking decisive action.

Are they passing laws to ensure our undeserved and poor communities (mostly black) have good education and free college?  Nope.

Are they taking the $37,000 average cost for a Federal Prison inmate and instead using this money to pay a decent salary? Not a chance.

Are they working towards providing universal healthcare during a worldwide pandemic, long term unemployment insurance that actually covers expenses and job creation programs? God forbid.

They are doing what they feel is most important.  They are voting to remove confederate statues from the Capital Building.

While a pandemic is raging through our country, people are unemployed and without healthcare and our poorest citizens are suffering the most, our elected “leaders” pretend they give a shit by giving lip service to the hot issue of the day.

In the meantime, they keep spending our tax money on bailouts for their favorite lobbyists, manufacturers, corporate beheamoths and connected friends.

I am not surprised.

After all, Congress wants to get paid and wants to be re-elected so that they can continue to do nothing while earning salaries of $175K+, sweet benefit packages and exorbitant retirement packages for doing next to nothing.

I don’t even blame them. I blame us for buying into the bullshit and for re-electing them over and over again.

Once again, our leaders feed us bread and circuses while the country burns.
