I downloaded my dating app statistics from Hinge for the past 3 months so I could take an objective look at the numbers.
I “liked” 910 different women. Of these, 14 “matched” me back.
- That means 1.5% of the women I found detractive enough to contact, replied to me.
- I “unmatched” 270 women who “liked” me first (all were unattractive).
- I exchanged 98 text messages.
Overall, I’d estimate I’ve spent 8-12 hours a week working on my profile, scanning profiles and attempting to connect with women.
Results: I had dates with 2 of these 14 women. One of them was TMF. She was clearly the highlight of my online my dating experience so far.
Was it worth it?
I’m note so sure.
In the beginning, I dated a lot of time changing my profile, figuring out my preferences, carefully studying profiles.
Now I spend at most 10 minutes a day on the app. I’m much more efficient and have much fewer “non-potentials” to weed out.
In real life, I’ve approached 3 women for dates in the past year. One was in a long term committed relationship. Two were married.
So I’m 0 for 3 there. But I wasted far less time. And I knew I was attracted to each of these women before asking them out.
Going forward, I will probably let my hinge and bumble “premium” memberships expire and downgrade to the free version. With a match rate of 1.5%, the extra benefits that come with the premium memberships don’t seem to make much of a difference.
That said, I have met 10 interesting and attractive women. It was fun at times and certainly exciting. I wouldn’t’t have had any of those dates without the apps.
Well, now I know what to expect – very little.
