Chocolate Suicide

Posted on September 1, 2022 by Steve Ainslie

I haven’t eaten any junk since I shared a dessert at a dinner date several months ago. Both the date and the dessert were mediocre, at best.

But after four days of forced inactivity due to my knee injury, last night I decided to treat myself to dessert. I knew having a gorge fest of ice cream would be result in days of distress I opted for two chocolate bars – one with Stevia and almonds and one with sugar.

It was a mistake.

I felt bloated as soon as I ate them. I figured that would go away by morning.

What was worse was the ice-pick- through-my- temple headache that I got a few hours later which has now lasted for more than 16 hours.

If there was any doubt that chocolate gave me headaches, that doubt has now been removed from my throbbing brain.

I’m sure the headache will go away by tomorrow. But I won’t be eating chocolate again.

It’s seems so strange to me that I get headaches from chocolate, dairy, ice cream and cheese – all of which I use to eat regularly.

Of course, for most of my life, I had headaches every day.

I thought I was prone to headaches.

It turns out that maybe all along, I was giving myself headaches with the foods I ate.

I’d like to go bang my head against the wall now to express my frustration with myself – both for the ancient past and the recent past.
