It is lovely that Trump and 18 members of his hoard crackpot sycophants are facing serious charges related to attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. It couldn’t happen to a more deserving crew. I don’t for one second believe the world is fair. Nor do I believe in karma . Nor justice. Nonetheless, I feel a small glimmer of satisfaction seeing that these people who behaved abhorrently are now facing the consequences of their actions.
Who knows how this will turn out? I have some opinions and predictions, but they’re so speculative they’re not worth worth writing about.
But here are some things I know:
- The Georgia indictment is for State Law Violations which means anyone convicted cannot be given a Federal pardon from the President. That eliminates the “get out of jail free card” possibility for the defendants should Trump or another Republic win the presidency in the 2024 election.
- At least some of the 18 other defendants have been hung out to dry by Trump and his funding raisers. They have been left to pay for their own legal defense, which will be significant.
- Trump, per his standard practice, demands 100% loyalty from his minions but thens turns his back on them whenever it suits his whims. All 18 of these defenders now get to experience this firsthand.
Sometimes lying, cheating, stealing, breaking laws and trying to undermine legitimacy because “you want to get your way” don’t work. Sometimes, it even gets you indicted.
I won’t be paying much attention to the trial and the hoopla surrounding it.
My guess is that eventually some people will flip on Trump as they see their lives being destroyed supporting his pathetic behavior. I suspect some will plea bargain out and go to jail. I have serious doubts Trump will ever be jailed. My hope is that the indictments at least make him miserable, cost him a ton of money and make the rest of his life as unpleasant as possible.
He deserves no less.
