Some of the greatest satisfaction I get is when I fix something that bothers me – a little – everyday. Often I’ll live with with these tiny problems for months on end before finally doing something about it because after all, it’s just a little niggling thing and I often forget about it until I run it into it again the next day.
The past two weeks have been jam packed with these types of fixes.
- Repainted the bathroom walls to a color I love.
- Repainted baseboards neatly. I had sloppily painted them 4 years ago right after my floors were installed and every time I looked at them it made me frown.
- Replaced a damaged piece of quarter round in my bedroom that I’d been ignoring for at least two years.
- Installed a car seat cover to hide the bleach stains from my swimming bag.
- Moved my dressing location to my walk in closet.
The painting project was big for me. It consumed several hours a day for more than a week.
The molding fix was unexpectedly fast and easy – it took me longer to find the molding at Home Depot than to install it.
The car seat cover and shifting my clothes took only a few minutes each.
Now everyday, instead of being faced with a few brief moments of disappointment, I get a little jolt of joy when I walk into my bathroom, glance at the floorboards, get dressed or jump in the car.
Sometimes I fantasize that if I was rich, I wouldn’t have to worry about stuff like this. I’d just pay someone to handle it.
But I wonder if I’d feel that same sense of satisfaction.
I doubt I would.
In any case, it doesn’t matter because I’m not rich – just quite satisfied.
