When I was going through my stuff this week to see if I had anything to get rid of, I came across 2 books that I no longer need. One was a book on how to do DIY repairs (which I purchased on the advice from a friend, but have never used because I find better, more specific DIY advice online) and another was a book on drawing caricatures (which I tried to use several times before giving up on my cartooning fantasy).
These books were less than 3 years old and in pristine condition. I figured I could donate them my local library.
Nope.
I checked the library’s website. They do not want any books donated. They used to accept donations for fundraising book sales, but the cost of storage, transport and time exceeded the money they made from selling books.
The library said they accept book donations via a 3rd-party nonprofit reseller. They listed an address for where to drop off books to that 3rd party.

I was surprised. I can see why the library wouldn’t want ratty, old, books. But new books? I thought they would love to get them.
Instead I learned that the books are basically worthless.
I’m glad that I almost never purchase books anymore. The library supplies me with more than I could ever need – for free!
