Credit to Nikki Haley for this brilliant line directed toward Vivek Ramaswamy during the Republican Presidential debates. Regardless of the content of their debates, she nailed this one.
A few weeks later, I was, once again, searching for interesting podcasts. I’m no longer interested in most of Rogan’s guests, nor his rants on politics, wokeness, CNN, stand-up and corporate media. I can’t listen another political pundit talk about who Trump might choose as his VP, which 3rd string candidate might replace him as the Republican nominee or endless discussions of what Israel “should do”.
So I peruse the Top lists and New Recommendations from Apple. I search for podcasts hosted by people I’ve heard on other podcasts who were decent. I’ll listen to almost any podcast for at least a few minutes to see if it’s bearable.
Most are not.
Comedians are a dime a dozen. Most aren’t very funny and quite a few are glaringly stupid and uninformed.
I find many Millennials and Gen Z’s to be ignorant of history, statistics, logical and experience. They are young and often proclaim, “nothing like this has ever happened before”. Um, yeah, it has. Just not to you.
News, politics, sports and other media personalities often try to drum up conspiracy or controversy to attract listeners. Yawn. I have no interest.
For a while, I listened to a lot of dating and relationship podcasts. Most of these are not very insightful. Everyone has an opinion.
I still listen to a lot of podcasts. Many are mediocre background noise while I cook, mow the lawn or vacuum. I occasionally listen to a gem that challenges my perspective and forces me to think. A handful are my favorites which regularly churn out thoughtful discourse.
As for the rest, every time I listen to them, I feel a little bit dumber.
