After observing the executive orders, hiring freezes, budget freezes and shutdowns from President Trump and Elon Musk over the past two weeks, one thing has become crystal clear to me. Neither one give two shits about poor people or about working class people.
You don’t put large numbers of people’s jobs in limbo with no notice if you care about them. You don’t cutoff funding for humanitarian aid, Medicaid, welfare and SNAP if you care about poor people. You don’t sow chaos and confusion by making abrupt dictates that will throw organizations, employees and their beneficiaries into a mad scramble to figure out what happens tomorrow if you care about them.
They don’t care. That’s quite evident.
It doesn’t matter that some of their ideas make sense. Government is bloated. Money is being wasted. We could benefit from reducing department sizes, analyzing how our money is spent and reducing bureaucracy.
There’s a way to do this right. There’s a way to do this wrong.
The way this is being done is cruel.
Then again, I expected nothing better.
