I have written before about the US gerontocracy and my opinions of politicians in general previously, so I won’t regurgitate what I’ve already said in today’s post. Instead, I want to talk about my gut reaction to seeing a news clip from Joe Biden’s visit to Raleigh last week. I’m not going to offer my opinion of Biden’s political career or leadership. I have plenty of strong opinions, as do many people, and nobody needs to hear mine added to the mix.
In the video, Biden is shown walking up to the service window of a local fast food joint to get one of their “famous milkshakes”. The first thoughts that came into my head were “he looks feeble and frail”.
I’ve seen that walk before:
- My 89 year old girlfriend up the street who’s had multiple falls and now uses a cane walks that way.
- My 86 year old girlfriend, who is mostly homebound and uses a walker.
- Some of the oldster regulars at my pool, who I admire for getting there multiple times a week to do laps or water aerobics despite having to deal with age-related mobility issues requiring canes, walkers and assistance.
None of us can beat aging. Biden’s clearly not. His staff, supporters and party attempt to hide this by talking about his energy and vigor while covering for his gaffs, but it is obvious to everyone that Biden is an old man, well past the prime of his life.
Like Feinstein, McConnell, Pelosi, and Trump, Biden is yet another example of the Emperor Has No Clothes.
We, the public, all recognize what we see before our own eyes.
I suspect, we’ll witness his continuing deterioration in the years to come, whether he gets reelected or not.
Time marches on – for all of us.
