It’s hot (and humid) in Florida – especially in July.
- Like sweat so much you need to change your clothes 3 times a day hot.
- Like get out of breath and make your heart race when exercising hot.
- Like shower twice a day hot.
Luckily, we have air conditioning, swimming pools, beaches, and ocean breezes.
Today, I exercised outside in the sun instead of in my usual location – the garage.
Unsurprisingly, it was hot. Sweat was pouring off of me the entire time. I had to pause and catch my breath several times.
All of my joints felt well lubricated. My muscles were loose and strong. When doing yoga, I could easily stretch deeper into every posture without any effort.
It felt great.
It’s because of the sun.
Tomorrow, when I am back in my shady garage where it’s cooler I won’t be as flexible. I’ll have to warm up longer. Sweat will still drip off of me, but not in buckets.
If I want my workouts to be even be better, I need to move out into the sun and “suffer” from the discomfort of direct sunlight.
Exercising outdoors is always better.
I know this from experience.
I spent years in big box gyms. I spent too many hours using machines, stair steppers, stationary bikes and ellipticals.
Then when I quit the gym and began exercising outside, everything got better. Despite the hot sun, the drenching rainstorms and the frigid winters it was more enjoyable, more challenging and a better workout.
A hike in the woods beats any indoor cardio machine. Dragging a tire sled, swinging a kettlebell or doing 1 leg squats beats leg presses any day. Running and biking outside clears your mind and transforms your body.
We’re designed to be outside in fresh air and sunlight (and rain, snow, wind, hail, etc.)
I hope to see you there.
