Ever since Trump was elected President in 2016, some people have advocated for “Red States” and the “Blue States” should split up and form 2 different countries due to political ideology differences.
Then, fueled by the media hyperventilating over the various violent protests, riots, storming of the capital, Antifa, Proud Boys, cosplaying militias and cosplaying anarchists during the last few years others have speculated that our country is headed for another Civil War. There’s even been a dystopian movie released in 2024 called “Civil War” in which a civil war has engulfed the United States, fought between the federal government led by a 3rd term president and several different sessions groups.
Are we headed for a Civil War?
I doubt it.
Here’s why:
People in the US are too lazy to get up off of their couches. We’re a nation full of fat, unhealthy. unfit keyboard warriors who “wage war” online but probably could’t walk a mile without getting out of breath.
Old people and right wingers might talk a good game of “taking down the liberal lefties”, but, for the most part, they’ll keep talking from their comfortable homes.
Younger people, liberals, Gen Zers and left-wingers have the benefit of youth and vigor, at least to some extent. But, they have been coddled for most of their lives and think that “trauma” happens when someone calls you a name or says something you disagree with.
War is ugly. It’s violent. It requires sacrifice, hardship and suffering. I’ve never been in war or the military, so my conception of war comes from movies, podcasts and books.
According to the US Census, approximately 18 million citizens who have served in the US military are alive today. That’s about 5% of out the total US population. I do not know how many of those who served were in war vs. non combat positions.
I suppose a small number (percentage wise) of US citizens experienced war another countries before coming to the US.
The rest of us have no clue what war is like. Not really.
As for political leaders, far more of them are educated elites, children from wealthy families and law school graduates than people with military experience. They’ll “talk” war endlessly while enjoying full staff, lobbyist donations, safe jobs and cushy lives.
Plus, most importantly, big business, the wealthy elites on both sides and the government will crush any “civil war” as soon as it negatively impacts profits.
I say all this because I’m not the lest bit worries about a Civil War.
I don’t want one – for sure.
However, I’m also someone who reads history. War happens. Civilizations and states that once seemed everlasting come and go. I predict that someday this will happen to the US.
There are many examples from history ranging from the Mayans and Aztecs, to the Greeks and Romans, the Mongols, the European Nations, etc.
But it probably won’t happen today, tomorrow or next year, regardless of who wins the 2024 presidential election.
