There are many times when I wonder, “Am I the only person who is thinking this?“
- When some a$$hole passes on the shoulder to cut in front of a long line of cars all waiting patiently to merge into a single lane.
- When Democrats insist that Biden is not showing signs age related cognitive decline.
- When Republicans proclaim that “Trump has our back” while every action he takes is for his own personal interest.
- When some jerk never picks up their dog’s poop.
- When I listen to a podcaster who’s obviously totally full of sh!t and making things up.
And so on. We could all add a dozen more examples.
But this post isn’t about me listing my frustrations with other people. It is about me thinking, “Doesn’t anybody else see this?”
What I have learned is that other people are seeing this.
In fact, many people feel/think the same way I do. I know because I talk to some of them. Or, I read their reviews and comments online.
Of course, many people don’t care about the same things I do. That’s revelatory as well. Sometimes I can learn from them. Other times, if our values differ enough, it teaches me to avoid them.
I used to feel incredulous and flabbergasted at people’s behavior when it contradicted what I think are obvious truths and rational actions.
Not anymore.
Even though in the moment my first thought is, “I can’t believe they did that.”
I’ll bet yours is too
