When pontificating against a presidential political candidate, people often say, “He’ll be the one with his finger on the trigger of the nuclear football! We can’t trust him with that.”
It’s terrifying to think that, according to what I’ve read, our President has as little 6 minutes to make a decision to respond to a nuclear attack that could result in a nuclear war. It’s also frightening to think of the other countries with this capability.
I have already resolved what I would do in the event of a dystopian world so I don’t spend much time thinking about this.
That said, there have been many discussions about this leading up to the 2nd Biden vs. Trump election.
This triggered an idea for me:
No president wants to start a nuclear war. Why would they? They are on top of the world. They have servants, corporate leaders, celebrities and world leaders fawning over them. People cater to their every whim. They are treated with deference, respect and honor. They are set financially, socially and politically for the rest of their lives. They don’t want that to end.
A nuclear war would change this and not for the better. So he will do everything he can to not “push the button”.
We have better things to worry about that impact our daily lives.
None of them have anything to do with who is president.
