Lack Of Meaning & Purpose

Posted on June 26, 2023 by Steve Ainslie

I have been drifting for a while.

Me – drifting?

  • Mr. High Achiever.
  • Mr. Most Likely To Succeed.
  • Mr. I Can Overcome Anything.
  • Mr. Set A Goal and Make It Happen.
  • Mr. Make Sure With Wife Is Taken Care Of.

I’m not the man I used to be when my wife was alive. That’s clear. My life and mindset are so different they would be unfathomable to the old me.

I set small goals each day. Things like clean the house, do the laundry, swim laps, workout, walk the dog. Barring extreme circumstances, I accomplish these.

I often have a longer project underway or anticipated like: replace the rotten wood trim, paint the bathrooms or re-lay the pavers in the yard.

These things bring me joy – or at the very least, comfort.

My purpose today is to take care of my dog Wiggles. I want her to have a great life.

For myself, I’m fine with a relatively stress free, drama free, comfortable life. Try to remain healthy and fit and able to take of Wiggles and myself.

As for a higher meaning and purpose, I don’t have one today. Perhaps I never will again.

I’m not sure I care.
