There was a leak of a Top Secret US Military Briefing Presentation posted online this week. The document included information about:
- Ukraine’s President wanting to attack Russia with long range missiles if he can get them from the US (even though he told the US they would be used for defense only)
- Internal conversations the President of France had where he stated that France was not simply a “pawn that would do what the US wanted” with regards to Ukraine, Russia and China
- Other notes that make it clear the US is spying on its allies, as well as its foes
The independent media is presenting this as a major story. The White House is trying to spin it as misinformation while also threatening to prosecute the person who leaked this document for treason. The mainstream media appears to be acquiescing to the White House’s official storyline – “much ado about nothing…disinformation…. nothing to see here.”
I have no clue whether the information in the document is valid or fake. It’s irrelevant, because the “leaked” information is common sense.
Of course each country’s leaders and power players will act in their own best interests.
- Of course Ukraine’s President want more arms to fight Russia and will say anything to get them. Without more arms for free from the US, he will be crushed.
- Of course France wants peace and good relations with Russia, China and India. France’s President is right to look after his country’s best interests. Russia is nearly next door, China is an economic powerhouse and India has a billion + people. Macron has to think about France first before supporting any US “protect democracy” strategy.
- Of course we spy on our allies, just like they spy on us. There’s no good guy/bad guy stuff here. Everyone does it.
It reminds me of the Edward Snowden leak where everyone was surprised that the US government was collecting massive amounts of data to spy on its citizens. Or the Panama Papers leak which detailed how the Global Super Wealthy hid money in offshore investments around the world.
Are we supposed to be surprised by any of this? Are we children who believe in fairy tales that governments do not abuse power, that the uber rich don’t hide their money to avoid taxes or that people will act in their own best interests?
I am not surprised.
This is not news.
This is life.
