At the end of February, my weight had risen to 148 lbs and I decided that I needed to do something about it.
I am happy to report that 2 months later, I have dropped back down to 135 lbs. This is pretty much my ideal weight. I was here a few years ago before creeping up a few pounds every few months until hitting 148 at the end of February.
What’s my secret? Eating less food.
I have been eating a very strict carnivore diet with no sugar, carbs or processed foods for years. But, what I realized was that over the same time period, I was eating more. At dinner, I would eat while waiting Netflix. Without paying close attention, I’d eat too much. Every single night.
My big change consisted on two actions:
- Eat one meal a day. Since I changed up my schedule, I now eat my first meal in the early afternoon. I’m not hungry a few hours later when I used to eat dinner, so I don’t eat dinner anymore.
- Measure the quantity of food I eat. I have cut the volume of food I eat by 40-50%. Instead of grazing mindlessly, I bought smaller containers to store 1 lb portions. It makes it easier for me to stop eating mindlessly when I am sitting in front of an empty container.
That’s it.
In 2 months I dropped 13 lbs. Some mornings, I’ve even weighed in a little under that.
I feel fantastic.
My clothes fit better. My workouts are significantly better. My swimming is better. I’m getting lean and ripped (a little) again. My mood is better. My joints feel less achy. My sleep is deeper and I wake more rested. I rarely have any bloat, stomach issues for digestion issues. I feel extremely light, strong and fit.
Are there downsides?
Of course there are.
If I was married or even dating, I’d be a terrible companion because of my strict diet and never drinking alcohol. Half the fun of being married was going on dates, getting a little drunk, eating decadent food and letting go.
But, I’m not married and I’m not dating. Those chapters have closed for me and might never reopen.
So instead, I’ll bask in the enjoyment of the good parts of being a lightweight for now.
