Listening To The Leaves Fall

Posted on November 26, 2021 by Steve Ainslie

The other day, I was standing in my yard while catching my breath during my morning workout. It was about 40 degrees. The sun was beginning to rise and the sky was a deep cloudless blue.

It was too early for the neighborhood leaf blowers and mowers. There were no diesel trucks, school buses or Ford F-150s speeding down the street. No dogs were barking.

I could see my breath in the cool air. A few birds were hopping around under the bushes and on top of the fence.

Then I noticed a sound coming from my backyard. It was a soft “chic…chic…chic”. I looked over and saw yellow leaves falling one by one from my tree. As each leaf hit the ground, it made this light, almost imperceptible sound.

I never heard leaves fall before. It was actually quite magical.
