Looney Tunes

Posted on December 18, 2022December 19, 2022 by Steve Ainslie

I am taking a “Cartooning 101” class with the goal of adding single pane comics to my essays. Since everything I write is about me, I need to develop a self portrait/caricature/character for myself. That’s been a riot. Not.

Drawing self portraits has been a challenge. So far, none of my images look like me much. I’m trying to start by drawing a character that is a reasonable representation of me and then play around with exaggerating different aspects until I land on something that sticks.

That’s easier said than done.

Then again, since nobody but me and a handful of you will ever see these images, it’s no big deal. I anticipate my comics will amuse nobody but me.

For me, the reward will come from the learning process itself. I have no doubt I will get better at this after a few hundred attempts.

Plus it gives me something to work on during the cold winter months.

Here are my first attempts – laugh all you want.
