I think many people would consider my life to be incredibly boring. I wake up early before dawn to walk the dog and then workout for hours. Then I swim a mile, eat lunch and take a long walk with the dog through the woods.
My afternoons are filled with chores, drumming, drawing, reading, catching up on the phone with friends, home repairs, projects and listening to podcasts. Then another dog walk around the neighborhood before dinner.
For dinner I eat the same thing 29/30 nights a month – ground beef – usually meatballs. Once a month I’ll grill a steak or make burgers. If I have dinner dates, I might mix it up with chicken or an occasional salad.
Then I go to bed early, wake up before dawn and do it all over again.
I am having the time of my life.
On the dating apps, many women want a man who likes to travel, who’s adventurous, who makes them laugh and who brings excitement.
Sometimes I like to travel – but I prefer to be home.
I’ve had many adventures both large and small – I’d rather walk the dogs and see the same people everyday.
I love to laugh and make others laugh. I just can’t do it on command. Some of the funniest things I’ve ever said were by accident.
As for excitement – I guess that depends on how you measure excitement. I’m excited to wake up almost every day. I’m excited to jump into the pool. I’m excited to eat lunch. I’m excited to learn a new drawing technique or to crush a drum solo. I’m excited to walk the dogs – especially when it is warm and sunny. I’m excited when I have an upcoming date.
But if excitement means jumping out of airplanes, flying overseas to visit a 3rd world country or buying expensive luxury goods, I’m not the right guy.
When I was a little kid, I pretended I was a superhero. I wore my sister’s knee high socks, my underwear and a cape made from a blanket. I’d jump off the arm of the sofa to “fly” while screaming “I’m Mr. Nobody Man!”
I still am today.
