During the 2 week Christmas through New Year’s holiday there was a dearth of news, podcasts and minute-by-minute Trump updates.
I expected this.
It was a relief. I listened to more music. I found alternative podcasts covering different subjects outside of current events and doom forecasting.
The last time I noticed this much relief was when I went off-grid in 2019 after my wife died. Due to spotty internet and radio access, I had little exposure to daily news and Trump’s first term antics. Also, because my entire world had fallen apart, I had no interest in them either.
I remember when I re-entered society a few months later how avoiding all of this noise was a relief. When I was hit with the “all Trump all the time” onslaught of coverage it was one of the only downsides of rejoining society.
With Trump’s attack on Venezuela and arrest of Maduro, my brief 2 week Trumpfree respite is over.
I think I’ll just tune out more. It was kind of nice.
