Nobody’s Blowing Up Your iPhone

Posted on September 23, 2024 by Steve Ainslie

Israel’s recent targeted attack that blew up the pagers and walkie talkies used by Hezbollah was all over the news last week. Reportedly more than 4000 were blown up over two days, injuring many people and killing some.

This has been breathlessly reported by many in the media as a “James Bond type” sophisticated attack.

From what I’ve read, it sounds more like Israel had good intelligence to penetrate the supply chain, some insider knowledge and was creative in its approach target its enemy.

This isn’t rocket science. Nonetheless, it makes for a compelling news story.

Some pundits and media tried to position this is something the general public should now worry about. Is the iPhone in your pocket now a deadly weapon? Could you be targeted by terrorists and blown up?

Ummm.

Could it be done? Sure.

It is likely? Highly doubtful.

Me, and probably all of my readers, are not part of a terrorist cell, army or military that is engaged in war. We’re just normal, average people going about our day.

I would imagine our odds of getting injured in a car accident, tripping and falling, getting cancer, or dying from a medical error are exponentially higher. But of course, those don’t make for good news headlines.

This is one of those stories I’m not going to lose any sleep over.

Nor should you.
