I finally started exercising for the first time since my surgery three weeks ago.
The first day was rough. I am tentative because I do not want to rip out my stitches by pushing myself too hard.
I found that even doing a scaled back workout at about 10% the intensity of my pre-surgery workout was disappointing. I had bicep and shoulder pain that I never had before. I moved stiffly and awkwardly. I was tentative.
Two days later, I’m happy to report that it is going better. Each day, I add exercises and increase intensity based on how I’ve recovered from the previous day.
It’s fantastic to finally breathe hard and work up a sweat for the first time since my surgery.
We’re in Phase 2 of reopening after the hard lockdown. As expected, cases of Covid are increasing since test are available and since people are no longer hiding in their houses all the time.
Hospitalizations are also increasing, as expected.
I hope our politicians don’t do another knee jerk reaction and shut everything down again. It would be great it they used some critical thinking and some blunt honesty this time around. My hopes for this happening are low.
I’ve been painting like a fiend during my recovery. I can’t wait until I can get back on the rings, the paralettes and in the pool. But until then, I’ll be painting, drumming and writing to preserve my sanity.
I’m still playing around a lot with expressionism and some abstract expressionism.
