Working Out, Lockdowns and George Floyd

Posted on June 20, 2020September 4, 2021 by Steve Ainslie

I am 5 weeks post-op and I’m crushing it.

My workouts have improved markedly every day since I began exercising again – hesitantly and tentatively –  2 weeks ago.

Since then, I’ve gone from about 10% to close to 90%.

At week 6, my surgeon said the majority of my healing will be complete and I can do anything I want.

I’m pretty close to there now and I’m freaking thrilled.

We’re still in Phase 2 of reopening after the stay at home lockdown. As expected, cases of Covid are increasing since test are available and since people are no longer hiding in their houses all the time.

Hospitalizations are also increasing, as expected.

I hope our politicians don’t do another knee jerk reaction and shut everything down again. It would be great it they used some critical thinking and some blunt honesty this time around. My hopes for this happening are low.

Over the past two weeks, George Floyd was killed by the Minneapolis cop and protests have taken place all over the US, including here in Raleigh NC.

I suspect that some of the protestors are motivated, in part, because they are stir crazy from social isolation and they want to get out of the house and be with people.

I expect the protests will result in mostly token changes, platitudes and typical gov’t bullshit.

I also expect that Covid cases will go up significantly from these crowds.

How could they not?

It’s going to be an interesting year for those of us who survive.

It’ll probably be fine for those of us who don’t .
