Note: I started this post back in February 2021, when Covid vaccinations were just rolling out in the US.
Of course the Covid-19 vaccination process is a mess. How could it not be?
We’re not built to handle surges and mass volumes adequately. Our systems, people and processes are bound to be overwhelmed.
Here are some of the obvious problem areas:
- Logistics of giving shots
- Phone Service
- Websites Overwhelmed
- Panic “surge” of people all wanted a vaccine now
- Directing people to seek advice from your local health department, your physician or your local healthcare provider – none of whom have good information (this is a classic pass the buck move)
It comes down to too much demand, too few well established system and panic.
That’s why the rollout was a cluster**ck for the first few months.
I guarantee, we can count on similar clusters with the next panic – whether it’s a pandemic, a natural disaster, a power outage, a real estate shortage or something else.
Today, 7 months later, the vaccination process in the US has leveled out. There’s no longer a surge of pent up demand. Vaccines are readily available all over the place – doctor’s offices, hospitals, pharmacies etc.
The media is still trying to keep fear stoked high reporting every breakthrough case, every potential problem, anecdotal stories of deaths and dire predictions of more variants and hospitals being overwhelmed. But people are getting weary of hearing this for 18 months.
It’s like the store of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. People are no longer responding in mass panic.
I’m not even commenting on the veracity of any of this info. That’s a different subject for a different post.
Rest assured, there will be another panic about something. And our response will be a cluster**k once again.
My advice is:
-
- Don’t panic.
- If you can wait it out – do nothing and sit tight.
Most of the time, these things will work their way over time.
