My bedroom has an en suite bathroom, which is something I rarely enjoyed in my previous homes. We had them, but I always let my wife take over master bathroom and used the guest bathroom for me. Now that I live alone, that’s no longer the case.
Lately I’ve been getting annoyed by the bathroom door. I never close it so it is always ajar and getting in the way. This week, I had an epiphany – I don’t need a bathroom door.
After all, in the 4 years I’ve lived here, I only closed the bathroom door once when I was painting it and another time when locked the dogs in there during a repairman visit.
So I removed the door from its hinges and put it in my spare upstairs bedroom. I can always hang it back up, in the highly unlikely event that I have a sleep-over guest.
It has been amazing.
First, the bathroom is significantly brighter. Light from the windows in the bedroom and from the fixtures in the bathroom now light up the entire room. I hadn’t realized the door blocked so much light.
The bathroom looks and feels bigger because I no longer have a 36″ wide door filling the first 3 feet of the room.
I can’t believe I never thought to do this until now. It’s one of those little daily things that bring me a shot of joy every time I walk through the doorway.
