Perplexity’ed

Posted on January 18, 2026January 19, 2026 by Steve Ainslie

I have been relying on AI more every week. I use Perplexity and Google AI search summaries every single day. I like that both give links to sources which I can drill down on to assess their validity. I get better search results from AI than Google 95% of the time. AI searches also build on a sequence of prompts I provide. Often I don’t know all the right parameters in mind when I start. Seeing the results helps me to refine and narrow the scope of my search.

It’s gotten pretty good.

I also use AI for any tech support and programming needs. Since I recently started using LibreOffice, I’ve had many questions built upon “how do I xyz”? Once I get what appears to be the right answer, I can prompt with “Show me the exact steps to do this.” I get direct step-by-step guidance. If anything doesn’t work, I can return to the AI asking for further instruction. This is absolutely brilliant. It is far superior to searching through help files or support sites which are, at best, occasionally useful.

Is AI going to end the world? Create a dystopian future? Obliterate jobs en masse? I have no idea.

It will change customer service. It already has for me and I can’t be the only person doing this.
