Rage Against The Price Gouging

Posted on July 4, 2022July 7, 2022 by Steve Ainslie

This year I learned that Rage Against The Machine reunited and is coming to Raleigh. Even though I’m not much of a concert fan, every video I’ve seen of an RATM concert makes me think I’d love to see them.

I checked out ticket prices.

Ticketmaster is advertising nosebleed seats behind the stage for $170!

But that’s not the actual price.

The actual price is over $250 because they tack on a $43 service fee plus a list of other taxes and fees.

For a concert. With terrible seats. Behind the stage. I wonder what you can even see from there – The back side of the big screens? The crowd jumping around in front of the stage? The back of the set scaffolding?

So yeah, I won’t be going. $250 is less than what the good tickets were a few months ago. For nosebleed seats in front of the stage, the tickets were advertised at $500 (not including service fees etc.), so I’d assume those were $600-$700 apiece.

No thanks.

I enjoyed taking my wife to concerts. We went to see a dozen different performers. Tickets generally cost $20-$40 for decent seats and we’d spend $100-$150 including food, drink and parking.

I remember every concert. These were fun date nights.

But even if I had a date to take to RATM, I cannot imagine it would be $500-$1200 worth of fun.
