YouTube put a video about Madonna’s plastic surgeries in my feed a few days ago. Because I’ve seen how frighteningly inhuman she has looked in recent years, I watched the video. I figured it would explain her botched facelifts.
Instead, I learned something. Actually, I learned a lot.
The video was produced by Dr. Gary Linkoff, a plastic surgeon based out of NYC. He did a step-by-step analysis of facial photos of Madonna from her early years up through the present. It was actually fascinating to see him describe bone structure, tissue, fullness, shapes, surgical changes, aging, and appearance.
Prior to watching this video (and a few others by him), I thought that famous people who were good looking like Madonna, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were naturally good looking. Of course, they benefited from fame and fortune, photo editing, treatments, spas, expensive foods, trainers and the like.
But I didn’t think they all had plastic surgery – starting in their 30s and in some cases even as early as their 20s!
I used to think it was just people like Joan Rivers, the freaky women on Real Housewives and the Kardashians.
I was so clueless.
I recognized what I thought was bad plastic surgery – the big joker smile from skin stretched too tight, the super bulbous lips from too much filler, the dead doll expressions from botox.
Now, I realize that some of this isn’t from bad plastic surgery – it’s from too much plastic surgery.
Dr. L showed how hairlines move, eyelids droop, and mouths change over time as we age. Then he explained the various procedures used to reverse these effects. All of the procedures leave tell tale signs that are obvious to the practiced eyes of trained surgeons.
I had no idea how many celebs have had extensive surgery. From jaw implants and nose jobs to facial sculpting, to eye lifts, and more.
No wonder they look so youthful and flawless compared to normal people.
No wonder so many “normal people” who cannot afford expensive surgery alter their appearances with photoshop, facetune and filters. They see pictures of stars then compare their own wrinkles, flab and average looks and think they look terrible.
Nope – they (we) look normal. It’s the famous/wealthy who look abnormal. Abnormally young, sculpted and attractive.
Another eye opener in his video was that most of these surgical procedures have to be repeated. After 10 years of aging, more facelifts are needed.
I guess if you are in the business of being professionally good looking, this is one of the prices you pay to be “in show business“.
As for me – I’ll pass. I’m OK looking my age. I’ve earned every line.
