I had an argument with my wife last night. She said something. Then I said something back. Quickly, things got heated. I can’t even remember what we we arguing about.
Suddenly, with her eyes shining brightly and her big cheesy grin unable to be surprised, she started teasing me. “Oooo…You’re such an assh***le. You know I’m right but you’re too stubborn to admit it – Mr. Tin Man”.
She got me. And capping it off with calling me the Tin Man – her reference to my inflexibility – was classic.
We both burst into laughter. I smilingly admitted she was right – but- I wasn’t happy about it and she didn’t need to gloat.
And just as suddenly, our argument was over and all was good.
It was a wonderfully normal experience that we had many times over the years.
And then I woke up.
With a smile on my face and joy in my heart, I realized that it was just a dream. My wife died nearly three years ago.
Instead of making me sad that she is gone, this time I felt grateful that she visited my dreams and for a moment, we were together again.
I look forward to the next time.
