That Day Will Come

Posted on September 1, 2021September 4, 2021 by Steve Ainslie

I spent much of my life waiting for something better.

  • In preschool, I couldn’t wait until I was a first-grader.
  • After Sunday family dinners at my Grandmother’s house,  I couldn’t wait until an hour had passed so we could go swimming.
  • In high school, I couldn’t;t wait until I graduated and went to college.
  • In college, I couldn’t wait until I graduated and started working.
  • Once working, I couldn’t wait until I got a better job.
  • Then eventually, I couldn’t wait until I could retire.

I also spent much of my life waiting for something worse.

  • Dentist appointments
  • Giving a speech or presentation
  • Work travel
  • Hernia surgery
  • Winter
  • Hurricanes
  • Death

Although I am not good at predicting the future, some events like those I listed above are nearly 100% guaranteed.

Regardless of how much I look forward to something or dread something, eventually, that day will come.

And then, it will pass.

Time marches on.
