Today, MLK Day, was the first national holiday that had absolutely no impact on me whatsoever since I moved here in 2019.
Why?
First, because I stopped celebrating holidays after my final Thanksgiving with my wife 2018.
Second, because I no longer swim so I don’t have to think about backup pools, holiday crowds taking up all the lanes or dealing with traffic from people off of work.
I have a feeling I won’t be celebrating holidays the way we used to ever again. It doesn’t make me sad. I cherish the memories I have of those good times.
But, in a way, I enjoyed MLK Day today because I was able to 100% disregard its interruption of my routine.
I look forward to completely ignoring all the rest of the holidays too.
