Today, MLK Day, was the first national holiday that had absolutely no impact on me whatsoever since I moved here in 2019.
This year, since I recently quit swimming I didn’t have to think about backup pools, school kids taking up lanes or amateurs slowing down traffic.
it was a nonevent for me altogether. Other than walking the dogs I never left my house.
I stopped celebrating holidays after my final Thanksgiving with my wife in 2018. There is no joy for me in holidays anymore.
I have a feeling I won’t be celebrating holidays the way we used to ever again. It doesn’t make me sad. I cherish the memories I have of those good times.
But, in a way, I enjoyed MLK Day today because it affected me 0%.
I look forward to completely ignoring all the rest of the holidays all year long.
