The Internet is full of incendiary trolls who make everything worse by dragging politics into discussions, picking fights and starting arguments.
And I know why.
Because in real life, we avoid these people who act like this.
We all know someone who is an antagonizer, who picks a fight at family gatherings, who spews negativity, who has insulting bumper stickers on his car and who relishes making other people upset.
In real life, we avoid these people. We don’t hang out with them. We walk away. We keep our distance at gatherings. We don’t engage in conversations.
So where do these people go? They go online, because there is no social distancing online. They can spew venom and pick fights endlessly with almost no personal consequences.
I’ve found a solution for this. I rarely read comments. I never engage in online debates. I avoid arguments. For the most part, I ignore them completely.
Just like in real life.
I’ve found that most people are pretty nice. They are kind and polite. They avoid unnecessary conflict and generally care for others. I choose to invest my time and attention with these people.
