The Invisible Man In The Sky

Posted on October 29, 2023 by Steve Ainslie

Scott Galloway was discussing the Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel and his own Jewish ancestry when he explained being an atheist by saying, “I choose not to believe that there is an invisible man in the sky who controls everything.”

It made me laugh. Obviously, he said it this way for dramatic effect. But as I thought more about it, I came to the collusion that it is not an over-the-top statement. It is really just a statement of fact.

It makes belief in God sound ridiculous.

I’ve written before about being raised Catholic, my doubts and my gradual transition from believer to agnostic to atheist.

I know many people (myself included, at one time) who find peace, comfort and direction from religion. I respect many of these people and admire their principles, even if I don’t believe what they believe.

If, however, you happen to be someone with doubts about your beliefs, maybe it would help you to write down your beliefs in simple, straightforward statements like Galloway did above.

You might be surprised by the results after you do.
