The Pandemic Of Excuses Has Arrived

Posted on January 19, 2022January 20, 2022 by Steve Ainslie

As I predicted last year, we are now beset with a pandemic of excuses. Here in my hometown, everything from grocery store shortages, to reduced pool hours, to trash pickup delays, to last minute school closures are all being blamed on “the Covid pandemic”.

If there is poor customer service – it’s due to covid. If retail stores don’t have stock or shipping is delayed – it’s due to covid.

It couldn’t possibly be due to lack of planning by an organization. Or because an organization pays subsistence wages that result in constant employee turnover. Or because it assigns hourly workers ever changing part-time shifts that make life miserable.

The excuses have piled up so high, it’s as if everyone has taken a lesson from our politicians. Just lie, blame someone else, and duck responsibility.

I envision this pandemic of excuses will be milked for years – long after covid has faded into an endemic part of life for people around the globe.
