I saw these “perfect for singles” homes that Lennar is building last week. If they had a garage and were located in a place I’d want to live, I’d be super interested.
I probably won’t ever downsize to an apartment or condo because my dogs are somewhat barky and I’ll never be dogless. But a smaller detached house wouldn’t be bad – if only it was single story, had a garage and was in the right location.
As I studied the home’s layout, checked out San Antonio and looked to see if Lennar had similar homes in other locations, I realized something:
I already live in the perfect house.
My house is 1.5 stories but I send 95% of my life on the first floor. I only visit the 2nd floor to paint, play the drums and store infrequently used items.
I have a garage. Sure I’d like a 2 car garage so I could workout while my car is parked inside but I certainly don’t need a 2 car garage.
My location is ideal. I only think about moving somewhere warmer every Jan/Feb when I’ve reached my maximum capacity for enduring winter. Without fail, right about when I think I’ve reached my limit, we get some sunny days with temps in the 60s and spring arrives.
I might have one more move in me. I’ve thought a lot about eventually moving into a 55+ senior community like the Villages in Florida or Sun City in AZ primarily to escape winter, have access to a lot of pools and avoid the annoyances of children (school traffic, germs, and annoying the crap out of my dogs).
The trade offs – leaving my home, living under stringent HOA rules, being surrounded by a bunch of old farts and the costs – all make this less appealing than dealing with winter for the time being.
I suppose this could change. For now, my house is perfect.
