Thinner

Posted on October 18, 2025October 19, 2025 by Steve Ainslie

Last February, I made a decision to eat less so I could lose the weight I had gained over the previous 2 years.

It worked, as I detailed here.

Since then, I continued to eat a little less and measure my volume of food vs. eating mindlessly while watching Netflix.

I sleep better now because I only eat once a day around lunchtime. That means I’m not sleeping on a full stomach and dealing with heartburn, digestion, rumblings and any other symptoms from eating too much too close to bedtime.

I’ve also dropped a few more pounds and I like it.

All of my clothes fit better. I’d taken many of my pants to the tailor to be taken in at the waist.

I’m ripped now for the first time in my life. I have some visible abs, a slim waist and lean muscles. I weigh about the same as I did when I was in my previous peak condition in high school and college – except I’m leaner and more muscular now. Go figure.

I had always thought it was a matter of working out harder or longer or differently.

It turned out it all came down to how much I ate.

What a bummer. It’s more fun to workout than diet. Plus I put in a ton of effort for decades, when what I need to do was stop eating out, quit eating carbs and eat less than what I had always thought was “reasonable”.

I now weigh between 127-130 lbs at just under 5’8″ height. I have no plans to go lower. I’ll never have a 6-pack. I’ll never look like a superhero or bodybuilder because I have no plans to do steroids or TRT or HRT.

Unsurprisingly, nobody cares about this at all – except me. They don’t even notice. I notice, of course.

I do think about food a lot. I’m not sure if it’s because my diet is so restrictive or because the algorithms keep showing me food and cooking videos and posts. I suspect it’s both so I’ve been reducing my time online. Why make my own misery?
