This might be my final post.
After writing more than 1500 posts when I launched this blog in 2017, I’m thinking about ending it.
I still plan to write – probably even more – because it helps me sort through my thoughts, opinions and beliefs. But, I’ll keep this writing offline and unpublished.
The impetus for this is that my hosting contract is up for renewal in a few months. Whenever this happens, rates are increased by 3x and I have to negotiate for a better rate or spend a few days shopping around for another host to get their “introductory pricing”, move the site to a new host, make configuration updates and then do it again 3 years later when the rates triple in a few years. I despise this process.
But even more to the point, I realize that my writing has been more helpful to me than anyone else.
Also, there’s some content I never publish because it’s ranting, whining, unpleasant or possibly hurtful if read by the wrong person.
I do not publish that content even though writing it is cathartic. Processing my thoughts and having a historical record helps me recognize when I’m circling through the same old shit and need to make a change.
And finally, I’m ok with falling off the grid. My online presence (other than the blog) has diminished over time after leaving work, getting off of LinkedIn, and making an intentional choice to limit my online and offline “relationships”.
I’m not going anywhere – just offline. If you really want to reach me, you’ll figure out a way.
I appreciate the readers who have visited my blog.
I wish you all the best.
update two days later…
Nah. I’ve decided to keep this blog going. I have a list of topics for posts that I will write but won’t publish for the aforementioned reasons. As I created this list, I was a bit surprised by a sense of relief. I felt as if I was holding my breath and finally exhaled. That’s a pretty clear signal to me that I need to write them regardless of whether I post them or not.
As far as the pricing shenanigans and migrating the blog….whatever…I know what to expect and how to deal with it.
More posts coming sooner or later.
