“Our most important concern is the health and safety of our customers, employees and community”.
In the last two days, I heard this message from:
- My city garbage collection service when checking the website to see if yard waste would be picked up.
- A local car dealer’s radio ad which never mentioned cars, instead touting its “safe, socially distanced, disinfected and masked showroom”.
- The grocery store door signs indicating cart handles were disinfected and employees wear masks (they neglected to mention masks are often worn under the nose or even the chin).
- From Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s spokesperson/liar-in-chief, who said ensuring the safety of schoolchildren is Trump’s #1 concern —- which is why he wants to strong-arm governors into reopening schools during peak pandemic periods.
Give me a break.
Does anyone think believe their bullshit?
We know the car dealer wants to sell us cars.
We know garbage collection is delayed because the city is overwhelmed with the pandemic, shutdowns, protests and budget shortages.
We know the only person Trump cares about is Trump – his reputation, his re-election and his money.
Instead of spin and transparently obviously attempts at obfuscation, I’d like to hear the truth.
Imagine if the governor said:
I ran for office because I wanted to finish my career with a high salary and get a sweet pension. I thought I could make better decisions than my opponent while rewarding the people who are my allies.
When the pandemic hit, I wasn’t ready. In fact, the state wasn’t ready. We have a limited budget and it was allocated to immediate needs and projects which would help me get re-elected. We never even thought about a pandemic. We’re guessing and doing our best, but mostly we are making it up as we go along.
What if the car dealer said:
We need to sell a bunch of cars because we’re behind the 8 ball after the last 5 months of shutdown. We hope if we say we care about your health that you’ll buy a car from us.
What if the grocery store said:
Let’s face it – you need food and we have it. You’ve got to come shopping anyway and while we hate having to pay an employee minimum wage to wipe off cart handles, it’s the only way the local government will let us stay open. So we have raised the prices on basic goods to cover for this cost.
We know the masks are mostly for theater. Don’t be too upset when you see are part time, underpaid, overworked stock guys pull them down under their chins so they can breathe.
The longer this pandemic goes on, the more clearly I am seeing the bullshit being sold by the media, the news, the internet, business, government and any one else with a vested interest.
My way of dealing with this is to opt out.
I buy as little as possible and only when I need it.
I spend my days exercising, playing with my dogs, walking outside and avoiding commercial transactions.
I talk to people on the phone and in person (rarely right now unfortunately).
In these activities, there is trust and honesty.
Look right next to you if you want to see, hear and feel the truth.
