Every day there’s a new headline of Trump’s latest 2024 cabinet pick. The accompanying articles often detail how his selection doesn’t have the necessary credentials, experience or qualifications for the role. The media uses hyperbole and anecdotes to echo each person’s worst characteristics.
Don’t get me wrong here. I don’t disagree with some of the commentary. Some of his picks are abhorrent people. Others seem woefully under qualified and inexperienced. A few others seem like they could be competent and effective – regardless of whether I agree with their political positions.
Only time will tell how they work out and I’ll offer no specific predictions here.
What I will say is that the way Trump is doing this is making me laugh. He’s doing like he’s picking contestants for Celebrity Apprentice.
Every day, he gets the top headline for yet another baffling pick. He’s selected Fox TV pundits, rabid MAGA supporter politicians, RFK, a former WWE executive and most recently, Dr. Oz.
It makes perfect sense to me.
He is surrounding himself with loyalists, sycophants and people he’s known for a long time.
Of course he’s going to hand pick other f***ing rich guys, trust fund millionaires and TV personalities. He knows and likes these people.
If I was building a team to support me, I’d try to choose people I knew, respected and trusted too. I’d rather have someone like that, than a more experienced stranger. I was thinking about the “under-qualified” people who’d be in my Cabinet. They’d include people like:
- The Sergeant
- The Pizza Shop Owner
- The Mom
- And the many other weirdos I’ve known
Now that I think of it, most of these people were not the best qualified when I hired them. They were the best people. And together, we figured out how to make it work.
Will Trump’s team be like that?
I doubt it.
I suspect there will be too many egos clashing, too much ambition and too many people interested in serving themselves first.
Hopefully there will be a few gems in there as well.
