Yesterday, I was dog sitting for my neighbor. I wanted to hang out for a while to keep the dogs company while they chilled out and laid around. So I tried to watch TV.
My neighbor has all streaming channels. Netflix, Roku, Amazon, etc. I tried a few but couldn’t get past his parental controls because I didn’t have a password. (He has a little kid so I could access a bunch of kid focused shows – no thanks).
Finally, I landed on PBS Newshour. I used to watch the with my wife every night but stopped watching it a few years ago when they became obsessed with covering every idiotic thing Trump said, did or tweeted.
Well, it hasn’t gotten any better. The content of the news was:
- The January 6th hearings, who’s saying what and who’s not cooperating plus copious hand wringing
- Gas prices going up and speculation nohow they will continue to rise.
- Congress’s unwritten “verbal bill” they are talking about passing (if they ever write it) which has a few token gun control and school security items in response to the Uvalde shooting.
- Inflation woes, market dips and speculation.
Mostly, it was reporters and pundits speculating about what the future “might” or “could” hold.
It was absolutely intolerable.
PBS identified 4 “problem areas”. But most of these don’t directly impact me or other people. More importantly, none of the news reported on actual concrete actions to DO ANYTHING other than worry, whine and pontificate.
It’s maddening.
I lasted less than 5 minutes before turning it off and talking to the dogs instead.
They provided more enlightening conversation and entertainment.
