As I mentioned in my my last post/rant, I was summoned for Jury Duty next month. I researched how they picked names. In my county, names are selected from the registered voters lists.
So even though it won’t help me this time, I decided it was time to cancel my voter registration. I’ve been thinking about how ineffective my vote is and wrote my reasons for not voting here.
I won’t repeat my reasons here. It’s all covered in the two posts linked above.
Cancelling my voter registration was simple. I downloaded a form from the Clerk of Course website, completed it and emailed it back.
Once the process it, I’ll be removed from the voter roles.
- Now as long as they don’t start pulling names from the tax rolls or the auto registrations for Jury Duty, I may never be called up again.
- Now, I no longer have to hold my nose to choose between the crappy Democrat and the crappier Republican candidate who both do the exact same thing – vote for their own best interests and disregard their constituents.
- I no longer will send time researching candidate’s “stated” positions and try to choose the lesser of two evils.
- I no longer will vote against all incumbents in the hopes that maybe even one of these longtime grifters will lose.
- I don’t even have to think about gerrymandering districts, pandering or politics at any level.
Instead, I’ve dropped out.
I know that not voting goes “against” everything we’ve been sold- that our country, our freedom, our founders and our constitution stand for.
Yeah. Whatever.
I’ve seen that if I want something to change, my single vote out of 250 million registered voters in the US makes absolutely zero impact. If I want something in society to improve, I work on it personally – like helping a neighbor or picking up litter.
Every politician I ever believed in has disappointed me and failed to deliver anything close to what they have promised. Most candidates I vote for never come close to beating the incumbent Democrat or Republic.
If some exciting, stellar candidate pops up, I can always send them money or volunteer for them. Both of these are extremely unlikely.
I could also run for office. That’s also unlikely.
I could always re-register to vote anytime I want. I have a feeling that day will never come.
