I bought my third push mower last month. I’ve owned two before and replaced them with powered lawn mowers when they didn’t work.
This time I wanted it to be different.
I have a smaller yard. My grass is more delicate now that I’m not in Florida. I like the idea of a quick, quiet mowing without dragging a long cord around. It’s ecologically friendly, inexpensive and self sustaining.
I imagined peaceful. cool evenings blissfully mowing my lawn as my dog lay nearby and my neighbors dropped by for a casual chat.
The only problem is, the push mower doesn’t cut my grass.
After three attempts, I realized that I dreaded cutting my grass. It was an exercise in frustration. After pushing the mower around for 20 minutes, I’d spend more time using my weed wacker to cut up all the grass that the mower missed.
I returned the mower and bought an electric one. It is loud, cost twice as much and involves dragging a long cord around the yard.
It cuts the grass.
Sometimes, no matter how much I want things to be different, it’s better to accept reality and move on.
