When Everyone’s A Star

Posted on June 6, 2023 by Steve Ainslie

TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Podcasts and blogs have made it possible for anyone to post content online. As a result, there has been an exponential explosion of user generated content. Most of it is bad. We now have millions of:

  • Mediocre videos
  • Boring podcasts
  • Bad writers. (Ahem)
  • Banal content.

One of the least interesting current trends is videos of someone watching someone else’s clip and making faces while mugging for the camera. People cooking or doing some kind of task – especially if it is produced using ASMR style editing – are a close second.

We’re not all meant to be onstage.

There’s a reason why some of the best movies and shows has good writers and directors. There’s a reason why the best journalists had editors.

Eventually, after over exposure to fluff and lame content, I anticipate there will be a shift in society. A certain of people will become fully immersed in the Idiocracy.

The rest of us will opt out altogether.
